Report Building Permit Violations

In order to ensure that construction is done safely and in compliance with building codes, the Village requires that permits be obtained for nearly all residential and commercial/industrial work, including carpentry, concrete, plumbing, fencing, roofing, masonry, signage, electrical, fire safety and HVAC. Permits should be prominently displayed on the work site.

If you suspect work is being performed without the proper permits, please report the exact property address and nature of your concern to the Building Department at 847-671-8245 or inspections@vofp.com.

Building Permits Required for Most Indoor and Outdoor Improvements

The Village requires permits for most indoor and outdoor structural work and the addition of new freestanding structures such as a fence, shed, or pool. If you are unsure about building codes and if you need a permit, check with the Building Department first.

Permits are required for constructing or replacing a driveway, sidewalk, patio (including paver bricks), stoop, or stairs; building or replacing a deck, shed, or roof; building or replacing a fence; installing a pool, hot tub, or pergola; tree removal; and adding a sunroom or 3-seasons room.
