Leaf Pickup and Yard Waste Removal Information

Leaf and yard waste removal service will continue through the first week of December. Leaves must be placed in brown biodegradable bags or in the Yard Waste container from Republic Services. Put your container or biodegradable bags out for pickup on Tuesdays. Leaves will not be removed if they are in plastic bags or placed in the street. Bags can be purchased at local grocery and hardware stores. Do not blow leaves into the street because it damages street sweeper equipment and can clog sewers causing street flooding.

Burning leaves is not permitted. Instead of raking leaves, you can mulch them! Simply mow over the leaves a few times and let them sit on your lawn. The mulched leaves provide nutrients and protection from winter weather. Also, sprinkle over your plants and shrubs to help retain water during winter months. The Department of Public Works will sweep curbs through late November. Check signs on your block for parking restrictions. For more information, call (847) 671-8252.

Branch

2024 Branch Removal Schedule

The Village will begin regular branch removal service the week of April 1. Place reasonably sized branches on the front parkway (not in the alley) by 7 AM on Monday of the removal week indicated below. The branches will be removed sometime by the end of the day on Friday. If your branches are put out late (after 7 AM on Monday of the designated week), it is possible that you could miss the pickup. Branch removal begins promptly and if trucks have already driven through your section of town, your branches will not be collected until the next scheduled pick-up week. Please note that if storm clean-up is necessary, the Village may need to delay the scheduled branch removal. In this situation, we will resume branch collection where we left off the following week.  If you have questions, call (847) 671-8252.

Maintaining Lawns and Disposing of
Yard Waste

Residents are encouraged to mow their lawn on a regular basis. Please take care to eliminate weeds growing in alleys and areas behind your home. Grass and weeds cannot exceed six inches in height because mosquitoes and rodents can hide and breed there.

Remember, yard waste cannot be put in the trash or recycling bin. Yard waste can go in the yard waste bin provided by the waste hauler (please see the Yard Waste Pick-up story above). If you do not have the new yard waste bin, place it in brown biodegradable bags and put it out for pick-up on Tuesday. Bags can be purchased at local grocery and hardware stores. Residents can select alternatives to bagging yard waste such as mulching mowers, leaf shredders or backyard compost piles to help you and the Village to save money!
