School Resource Officers

School Liaison Officer (SLO)

We have a full time Officer assigned as School Liaison Officer under contract agreement with District 212 for East Leyden High School. This officer is armed and present to protect the students, as well as enforce laws in and around the school. The SLO is the primary point of contact and interaction with the students and faculty at East Leyden High.

Part of the Officer's responsibilities are meeting with students who need help and do not know to whom they can turn, and help guide these students to the necessary help they need. These officers also have the duty to create positive relationships with the students in order to foster long-term, beneficial interactions with Police both in and out of Franklin Park.

Officer Friendly

We have officers that work District 84 in a program called "Officer Friendly". Officers will go to the schools and go over subjects like stranger danger, holiday safety, summer safety and other appropriate topics for each grade level. The contact our officers make with the students is quality time to foster positive law enforcement presence, as most students never have contact with police officers. The students then identify with the officers and make positive connections with all police officers. Many times these officers are approached by the students years later thanking them for their talks at school.
