Street Sweeping

The Department of Public Works will sweep Village curbs through late November. Please check signs on your block for parking restrictions.

This year, street sweeping will begin throughout the Village on April 1st. Residents should check their street signs for the day and times. Please remember that signs are posted at the beginning of each block and apply to the entire block for which they are posted.

2023 Branch Removal Schedule

The Village will begin regular branch removal service the week of April 3.  Place reasonably sized branches on the front parkway (not in the alley) by 7 AM on Monday of the pick-up week indicated below. The branches will be removed sometime by the end of the day on Friday.

April 3 & 17

May 1, 15 & 29

June 12 & 26

July 10 & 24

Aug.7 & 21

Sept. 4 & 18

Oct. 2, 16 & 30

If your branches are put out late (after 7 AM on Monday of the pick-up week), it is possible that you could miss the pick-up. Pick-up begins promptly and if trucks have already driven through your section of town, your branches will not be collected until the next scheduled pick-up week.  Please note that if storm clean-up is necessary, the Village may need to delay a scheduled branch pick-up. In this situation, we will resume branch collection where we left off the following week. If you have any questions, please call (847) 671-8252. Pick up weeks are:

Please note that the following will not be removed:

  • Branches left out in a tangled mess
  • Woody branches under ½ inch in diameter
  • Leaves, vines, herbaceous plants, and weeds
  • Large stumps, roots, and root balls
  • Wooden fencing and construction lumber
  • Branches and tree debris generated by contractors

Yard Waste Removal

Yard waste removal takes place on Tuesdays beginning in April. Garbage and recycling will continue to be removed on Mondays in Franklin Park. Please use the reusable yard waste bin provided by Republic Services. Residents can also purchase brown biodegradable bags. Residents can also select sustainable alternatives to eliminating yard waste such as mulching mowers, leaf shredders or backyard compost piles.

Wood Chips Available to Village Residents

Wood chips are available free of charge for pick up only (delivery is not available) at the Village's Street's Division facility located at 9501 W. Belmont Ave. Go to the rear of the building and help yourself to the wood chips in the concrete bin. Wood chips can be picked up on Monday through Friday after 3:30 PM and anytime on Saturday and Sunday beginning April 1 through Oct 31, or while supplies last. Wood chips are for Franklin Park residents only and not for commercial use

Yard Waste Pick-up and Street Sweeping

The Village’s waste hauler has informed us that beginning on April 5, yard waste removal will take place on Tuesday. This change only pertains to yard waste. Garbage and recycling will continue to be picked-up on Monday in Franklin Park.

Republic Services will provide residents with one reusable yard waste bin. This will eliminate the need to purchase brown biodegradable bags. To obtain a free yard waste bin, call (847) 671-8258 and one will be delivered to you. Supplies are limited.

Residents can also select sustainable alternatives to eliminating yard waste such as mulching mowers, leaf shredders or backyard compost piles.

Maintaining Lawns and Disposing of
Yard Waste

Residents are encouraged to mow their lawn on a regular basis. Please take care to eliminate weeds growing in alleys and areas behind your home. Grass and weeds cannot exceed six inches in height because mosquitoes and rodents can hide and breed there.

Remember, yard waste cannot be put in the trash or recycling bin. Yard waste can go in the yard waste bin provided by the waste hauler (please see the Yard Waste Pick-up story above). If you do not have the new yard waste bin, place it in brown biodegradable bags and put it out for pick-up on Tuesday. Bags can be purchased at local grocery and hardware stores. Residents can select alternatives to bagging yard waste such as mulching mowers, leaf shredders or backyard compost piles to help you and the Village to save money!
