Building Department

The Building Department provides assistance to Franklin Park residents and commercial/industrial businesses to construct, remodel and maintain their properties.  The Village required permits include (but are not limited to): carpentry, concrete, plumbing, fencing, roofing, masonry, signage, electrical, fire safety and HVAC.

The Building Department also provides pre-sale and occupancy inspections for residential and commercial/industrial buildings.  Multi-Dwelling inspections are preformed annually on all dwellings containing three or more units.  Health and elevator inspections are performed biannually.  Plan reviews for all permit processes are also offered and performed.

Report Building Permit Violations


In order to ensure that construction is done safely and in compliance with building codes, the Village requires that permits be obtained for nearly all residential work, including carpentry, concrete, plumbing, fencing, roofing, masonry, signage, electrical, fire safety and HVAC. Permits should be prominently displayed on the work site.

If you suspect work is being performed without the proper building permits, please report the exact property address and nature of your concern to the Building Department at inspections@vofp.com.

 

Building Permits Required for Most Outdoor Improvements


The Village requires permits for most outdoor structural work and the addition of new freestanding structures such as a fence, shed, or pool. If you are unsure about building codes and if you need a permit, check with the Building Department first. Permits are required for patios, driveways (including paver ribbons), sidewalks, stoop or stairs; constructing or replacing a driveway, sidewalk, patio, stoop or stairs; tree removal; building or replacing a deck, shed or roof; building or replacing a fence; installing a pool, hot tub or pergola and adding a sunroom or 3-seasons room.
