The Building Department provides assistance to Franklin Park residents and commercial/industrial businesses to construct, remodel and maintain their properties.  The Village required permits include (but are not limited to): carpentry, concrete, plumbing, fencing, roofing, masonry, signage, electrical, fire safety and HVAC.

The Building Department also provides pre-sale and occupancy inspections for residential and commercial/industrial buildings.  Multi-Dwelling inspections are preformed annually on all dwellings containing three or more units.  Health and Fire inspections are performed bi-annually, and Elevator inspections are performed annually.  Plan reviews for all permit processes are also offered and performed based on the scope of work involved.

Report Building Permit Violations

In order to ensure that construction is done safely and in compliance with building codes, the Village requires that permits be obtained for nearly all residential and commercial/industrial work, including carpentry, concrete, plumbing, fencing, roofing, masonry, signage, electrical, fire safety and HVAC. Permits should be prominently displayed on the work site.

If you suspect work is being performed without the proper permits, please report the exact property address and nature of your concern to the Building Department at 847-671-8245 or inspections@vofp.com.

Problems or Concerns with a Local Food Establishment?

Our Health Inspector oversees one hundred and sixty (160) food establishments that interact with the public through human consumption. These establishments may be a fast food restaurant, pizza parlor, bakery, wholesale processors, restaurant, daycare center, lodging establishment, grocery store, or deli. All inspections are conducted and based upon the Rules & Regulations of the Illinois Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Codebook. Inspections are conducted every six months; unless an establishment requires extra follow-up visits. Inspections are also conducted immediately after a complaint is received from a concerned consumer.

To report any concerns or complaints, please contact the Health Department at 847-671-8241 or  Email the Health Department

Building Permits Required for Most Outdoor Improvements

The Village requires permits for most outdoor structural work and the addition of new freestanding structures such as a fence, shed, or pool. If you are unsure about building codes and if you need a permit, check with the Building Department first.

Permits are required for constructing or replacing a driveway, sidewalk, patio (including paver bricks), stoop, or stairs; building or replacing a deck, shed, or roof; building or replacing a fence; installing a pool, hot tub, or pergola; tree removal; and adding a sunroom or 3-seasons room. For more information, call (847) 671-8245.
